Change order fees
are commonly charged by a builder for making changes during the construction period. Builders normally charge a fee ranging from $25-$100 per
change in addition to the cost of the change itself. This fee is designed to discourage owners from making too many
changes after construction has begun. Keep in mind not all builders will stick to charging this fee on all changes, while others will.
It is important buyers find out the cost of an option, modification, or change prior to signing the building agreement . You should also get the total option’s price in writing on the building agreement in case the change is made after construction has begun. During negotiations builders and their reps are all too willing to give you a lower price on an option to help encourage you to build with them. After construction begins they seem to have a poor memory.
