Developments (sometimes referred to as
subdivision or deed restricted communities) are by far were most new houses are
built these days. Generally
speaking, deed restricted communities offer the best protection for your
investment. Each development is as
different as people are. They may offer
swimming pools, clubhouses, golf courses, tennis courts, lakes, playgrounds,
parks and other types amenities. Lot
prices will differ greatly from development to development.
Lot size will differ as well. Developments
in more rural communities may offer lot sizes from half acre to multi acre
development lots, where more urban communities are more likely to have lot sizes
ranging from quarter acre to half acre lots.
Research a development you are considering
very carefully. Find out what if
any annual maintenance (or other) fee is charged by the community.
Find out who governs the community association.
Ask to see a budget report, deed restrictions, and the association’s
officer’s list. You may want to
call one of the officers and speak to them about the community
